Anticipated Hiring Range
$3,800 to $4,800 per month ($45,600 to $57,600 annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Student Health Services’ (SHS) Director, and receiving work direction from the Health Administrative Lead, the Health Services Associate provides administrative support and student/program educational support. This includes utilizing and employing the electronic health record (EHR) system or department information to support student understanding and access to health services. Health information work includes maintaining confidentiality of the EHR and coordinating patient access, flow, scheduling, and education. The Health Services Associate contributes to the Health Information Team meeting its student engagement objectives. The incumbent may be asked to support the work of other department staff or programs. The incumbent works with students and campus colleagues via multiple modes, including phone, databases, internet, email, 1:1, small group interactions, faxing, website, and tabling. Working collaboratively to support student success is the bottom line purpose of this and all SHS team members.

Position Information
Patient Engagement and Education
Communicates with students as needed in support of the department operational and informational needs.
Initiates EHR searches and updates with commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
Initiates problem solving for any patient reception or services issues.
Assists in updating and educating students regarding policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and accreditation standards.
Interprets policies and procedures to demonstrate effective, practical, and thorough service solutions.
Reviews processes in order to make recommendations for continuous improvement.
Conducts enrollment information meetings on reproductive health and family planning options available to eligible SF State students.
Supports outreach and engagement efforts with new and established patients.
Supports development of health information and services reports.
Ensures compliance with applicable regulations or requirements (e.g. California privacy laws, HIPAA, accreditation).

Logistics and Protocol Support
Performs administrative work that facilitates patient access and service utilization.
Represents unit in department working groups and committees.
Demonstrates effective use of EHR and student records databases.
Supports department in the retrieval and reporting of relevant data (e.g. utilization, top visits, etc.).
Helps students understand their patient rights.
Assists in determining provider schedules to facilitate student use of services.
Conducts data collection and initial analysis (e.g. point of service surveys).
Engages in meetings, committee work, or special projects as needed.
Recommends improvements for SHS engagement efforts.
Recommends communications or announcements to inform and educate students regarding services.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
General knowledge of the techniques for collecting and compiling data, and the means of disseminating educational information to the public through various mass and audio or visual media. Working knowledge of the elements of health education programming.
Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to individuals with various interests and from varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds; prepare and deliver informational talks or lead group discussions using visual and other aids and provide clear, understandable answers to questions which are raised by target group audiences; conduct interviews or group discussions to obtain data on health habits and needs, observe reactions to questions, and record or summarize findings; conduct research using a variety of sources to develop and prepare educational materials; draft simple staff reports and articles for publication in newsletters and bulletins; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, target segments of the student community and representatives of the news media.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications
6 - 12 months of related experience in a health care setting.
Ability to implement routine clerical procedures.
Demonstrated ability to work tactfully and harmoniously with patients, staff, and others.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Demonstrated computer skills including experience with email and Microsoft applications.
Effective English writing/reading and communication skills.

Required License/Certification
As a condition of employment and continued employment, must be able to maintain strict adherence to HIPAA standards.
Must pass a credentialing check, for example, verification of education.
Must pass a background check that includes fingerprinting.

This position requires the successful completion of a background check.
