The Honduras School-Based Violence Prevention Activity (Asegurando la Educación) is a five-year, $20.8 million USAID program addressing school-based violence to support improved education outcomes and reduce violence in target communities. Through the Honduras SBVPA, DAI will support USAID/Honduras to implement innovations to address school-based violence (SBV) that impedes the delivery of education and use education and school processes to contribute to violence prevention in target communities.
The SBVPA team engages teachers, administrators, parents and students?as well as community members and national policy makers in schools and communities in the municipalities of Tegucigalpa, San Pedro de Sula, La Ceiba, Choloma and Tela ?to reduce risks and protect students. By transferring knowledge of best practices from other violence prevention programs in Central America and by utilizing a targeted grants program, Asegurando la Educación is improving schools' ability to prevent violence, strengthen local networks that enhance school safety, and build the capacity of the Ministry of Education and other social protection actors to respond to school-based violence.
Role's Purpose
Communications Manager will supervise and mentor the communications staff, design communications products, and train technical and field staff in communications skills. The successful candidate will ensure quality Spanish and English language documents and communications materials, as well as ensuring that all communications and promotional products comply with Asegurando's branding and marking plan.
Objectives and Duties:
Communications:
Supervise the application of all the branding and marking plan rules in all ALE activities
Draft, coordinate, edit, and produce publication-ready Spanish- and English-language communications products, including but not limited to weekly reports, quarterly reports, annual reports, strategies, Success Stories, brochures, Fact Sheets, eNewsletters, and videos, among others
Supervise and mentor Communications staff
Assist in the graphic design of inputs for communications products
Liaise with USAID communications officials, as appropriate
Train technical staff in drafting weekly, quarterly, and other reports and products, including in photography skills, eNewsletters, etc.
Manage the writing processes to ensure publication-ready quality and timely submission to USAID reports and other communications products
Prepare user-friendly templates for common communications products, such as strategies and program updates
Act a photographer in key events (or supervise the photographers in charge of digital registry)
Lead the organization of medium and large events
Maintain orderly filing system of all communications and knowledge management products on share drive
Other assignments as required
Knowledge Management:
Coordinate with Knowledge Management Manager
Support KM unit with analysis of primary and secondary data and project results to distill lessons learned and best practices
Support KM unit in the development of manage knowledge sharing tools and products including learning communities, presentations and project/policy briefs and other written documents
Support KM unit in identification of the best ways to capture and share technical knowledge to improve program efficiency and promote school safety with our partners
Collaborate with KM unit to innovate and design learning mechanisms and activities to provide project staff and external stakeholder with key information to achieve safe learning environments
Help KM unit to manage and implement the Learning Plan which seeks to find responses to key project development questions
Other assignments as required
Reporting:
This position will report to the COP
Base of Operations:
Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán, with frequent travel to San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba
Qualifications:
Native Spanish writing skills
Native English writing skills
Minimum Bachelors of Arts degree or equivalent, MA or equivalent preferred
Significant experience managing teams of three or more staff
At least 5 years of experience in communications
Significant USAID experience
Video production and/or video editing preferred
Graphic design experience preferred
Strong photography skills
