POSITION SUMMARY:This position reports directly to the Child Care Center Director and is responsible for providing on-site day care services to all children assigned to their care in compliance with all Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (TDPRS) and Blue Skies of Texas policies and procedures. The incumbent occupies a position of confidence and trust in relation to children, family members, and staff and must maintain confidentiality in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:Incumbent must display tact and courtesy and patience when dealing with children, parents, and residents of Blue Skies of Texas, as well as maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with co-workers, supervisors, and all others. Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English. Must possess strict honesty and integrity and be even-tempered, self-motivated, and address and promptly report areas of concern and safety issues to the Child Care Center Director.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

EQUIPMENT AND COMPUTER OPERATIONS:Working knowledge of various office equipment including computer, printer, copier, paper shredder, paper cutter, arts and crafts materials, and child development learning aids. Will need to know how to operate a vacuum cleaner and attachments, broom, mop, and other everyday cleaning aids, as well as kitchen appliances including a stove, dishwasher, and microwave for preparing foods; in addition, the incumbent will operate a television, VCR, and other entertainment equipment to provide children with learning and entertainment activities. Training will be provided to familiarize the incumbent with work-related equipment to ensure safety and proper operation during use.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:Possess current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Must be familiar with and abide by standards set forth by the TDPRS regarding Child Care programs.
2. Assists in the maintenance of all child care admission records, health records, and emergency medical information in accordance with TDPRS standards.
3. Maintains Parents' Guides to Child Care as set forth by TDPRS.
4. Assists in the maintenance of daily children attendance records.
5. In the absence of the Child Care Center Director, assumes responsibility for day-to-day operations in compliance with TDPRS standards.
6. Assists in the maintenance of the nutrition program and dietary plan in compliance with regulations.
7. Ensures adequate supplies for dietary needs are on hand.
8. Assists in the identification and assurance that all equipment, toilet facilities, and furnishings are clean, operable, in good repair, and that all sanitation and safety guidelines are met.
9. Exhibits competence and good judgment and self-control in working with children and relates to them with courtesy, respect, and patience.
10. Provides children with age-appropriate, developmentally-related structured activities that provide a variety of experiences.
11. Plans daily schedules for children, ensuring their physical, social, emotional, nutritional, and safety needs are met. 12. Sets limits for children, provides guidance, and facilitates prompt, appropriate conflict resolution with courtesy, respect, and patience when disputes or altercations arise.
13. Ensures that children are supervised at all times and behaving in an appropriate, mutually-respectful manner.
14. Maintains required training requirements as determined by Supervisor and attends training sessions and seminars as required.
15. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

INTERNAL CONTROL:Within the scope of position duties, responsible for seeing that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures are complied with. This position may handle confidential information and must treat such with appropriate sensitivity.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:Work is generally performed indoors in a climate-controlled setting; however, outdoor activities with the children are performed, weather permitting. Incumbent must be able to perform sustained, daily physical activity caring for young children. Bending, squatting, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and walking are necessary, as well as occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Few environmental hazards are present, although the threat of communicable disease exists. Mild cleaning products, waxes, and soaps are used in the immediate area, and all cleaning agents are kept in a storage area which remains locked when not occupied by staff. Mild pesticides are used periodically to control bug infestation.

WORK SCHEDULE:Core work hours are from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday; however, shift schedule needs, to include accommodating for early drop-offs and late pick-ups, special projects, or assignments may require working additional hours to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
WORK LOCATION:Child Care Center, located in Freedom House on the Blue Skies of Texas West campus.

ATTIRE AND DRESS CODE:Casual attire, taking into account the need to work closely with infants and children, both indoors and outdoors. Blue Skies employee ID badge or name tag must be worn at all times while on duty, unless doing so would pose a safety concern for the employee or supervised children. Close-toed, slip-resistant shoes must be worn. See employee handbook for specific instructions. It is the intention of Blue Skies of Texas to ensure that employees present a neat and professional appearance at all times while on duty. Personal Protective Equipment will be issued and worn, as needed and in accordance with policy, and training will be provided to ensure safety and proper wear of same during use.

RANGE OF PAY:Dependent upon qualifications and experience, with the intent to be competitive within the market.
