SUMMARY: The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership in the country office (CO) for grant acquisition and management. The Business Development Specialist is responsible for identification of opportunities for strategic grants and contracts, liaison and relationship-building with potential partners, coordination and leading proposal development, overseeing grants implementation and compliance. The Business Development Specialist ensures correct adoption and consistent use of ChildFund’s systems, including ChildFund’s grant Database BRIDGE and tools for proposal development and grants compliance, ensures adherence to donor policies, procedures and regulations, as well as ensuring risk mitigation and seeks to build CO capacity in the different aspects of Grant Acquisition and Management (GAM).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
Pre-Award Grant Acquisition
• Leads the Country Office’s Grant Acquisition and Management efforts;
• Seeks to increase the CO grant portfolio and diversity funding sources, identifying relevant opportunities and leading pre-positioning efforts.
• Leads proposal development with a focus on quality, ensuring active participation from CO team members, coordinating technical input as well as involvement of Shared Services Unit (SSU) HR personnel as appropriate.
• Supports the integration and participation of partner organizations in proposal development.
• Works with the Senior Finance Specialist to ensure correlation between the technical and financial proposals.
• Liaises with the International Office GAM team and the Regional BD Specialist as appropriate in the development of proposals.
• Monitors the use of BRIDGE to track the preparation and results of new grant funding proposals.
Post-Award Grants Management
• Supports the project team to establish and maintain appropriate systems and procedures to ensure compliance with donor contracts, and with the Partnership Portfolio Manager in the event of sub-award contracts.
• Liaises with the project manager, M&E and finance staff to ensure that grant implementation is progressing according to plan, funding is spent according to donor stipulations and within the appropriate timeframe, advising management in the event of issues with donor compliance.
• Oversees the quality of all deliverables to donors ensuring these are produced to a high standard, liaises with internal stakeholders including the project manager and the SSU Senior Finance Specialist to ensure all requirements and deadlines are met.
• Ensures best practice is communicated, followed and shared in all aspects of grants management and leads the development of knowledge management and learning products to feed into pre-positioning efforts.
• Liaises with the IO GAM team and the Regional BD Specialist, as appropriate, in post-award follow-up.
• Works with the project team and CO and SSU personnel (Assurance and Finance) to ensure effective project close-out.
• Monitor the use of BRIDGE to monitor the implementation of active grant funded projects.
Donor Relations
• Supports the development and maintenance of effective relationships with current and prospective donors. Provides appropriate and timely feedback to ensure management is fully informed of grant project progress.
• Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant area required. Equivalent relevant work experience may be acceptable in lieu of degree.
• Project Management certification is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in grants acquisition and management
• Proven ability of articulating the organization’s core intent, strategic direction in ways that respond to donors’ expectations and requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating capacity building program/training, coaching and/or mentoring project staff in the basics of proposal development and grant management.
• Knowledge of major donors’ requirements, applicable local regulatory and legal requirements.
• Demonstrated capability in execution of various stages of the grant lifecycle including pre-award review, grant progress monitoring, and award closure.
• Proven excellent communication, networking, presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team for a successful achievement of proposal development
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English required.
• Significant Travel to ChildFund’s geographic areas required.
• Excellent MS Office skills, especially with MS Word and MS Excel
• Previous experience using a database to monitor the progress of a grant funding proposal.
• Knowledge of Salesforce database application is preferred.
